Meghan Markle marked Prince Archie’s seventh birthday with a warm message on Instagram this week. She wrote “7 years later…happy birthday to our sweet boy,” adding a white heart emoji.
The phrase “7 years later” is a quiet, heartfelt callback to the day Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor arrived on May 6, 2019. His birth was one of the most anticipated royal moments in years. Meghan and Prince Harry introduced their newborn son to the world a few days later, appearing at Windsor Castle. Seven years on, the family is settled into a very different life, but the warmth in that message is unchanged.
Archie now lives in Montecito, California, with his parents and younger sister Lilibet Diana. Lilibet turns five in June.
The couple stepped back from their senior royal roles in early 2020 and have spoken openly about protecting their children’s privacy since. They’ve kept Archie and Lilibet largely off social media and out of the tabloid cycle. A birthday message without a photo fits that philosophy, and it carries its own kind of tenderness.

Harry and Meghan’s public story has had plenty of chapters since they left the UK. The memoir came out in January 2023, and their Netflix documentary series had arrived a few weeks before that, in December 2022. Through all of it, the consistent thread has been keeping their children out of the noise.
When King Charles III became King in September 2022, Archie officially became Prince Archie of Sussex. It’s a small but meaningful marker of how much has shifted in seven years.
