Robbie Kruithoff, a filmmaker and investor, and William Nobel, a writer and producer, have launched Wrong Turn Productions, an independent studio that will develop and produce movies for a global audience. The duo says they will focus on making “entertaining” independent films that are “engineered for profitability.”
The new venture is currently co-financing “Queen of the Falls,” an upcoming feature film starring Pamela Anderson and Guy Pearce, in partnership with Pedro and Agustin Almodóvar’s El Deseo, Infinity Hill, Frutacine and Maneki Films. They are also attached to Philippe Parreno’s first narrative feature “Riverrun,” starring Charlotte Gainsbourg, Zoe Saldaña and Vicky Krieps, as well as Richard J. Bosner’s “Devoted,” starring Mena Suvari, Skeet Ulrich and Elizabeth Marvel.
Wrong Turn Productions is backed by a consortium of investors and family offices. Its upcoming slate spans narrative and documentary features across multiple stages of production. The goal is not only to make compelling movies, but to enlist brands by getting them more involved in the creative process.
“We see a massive opportunity in the independent film space to rethink how brands engage audiences through culture and storytelling,” said Kruithoff and Nobel in a statement. “Operating at the intersection of entertainment and brand strategy, Wrong Turn Productions is well positioned to pair filmmakers and brands in a way that feels emotionally real and culturally relevant by using a model that benefits the modern moviegoer as much as the brand.”
The producing partners served as executive roducers on Gus Van Sant’s “Dead Man’s Wire,” starring Bill Skarsgård, Dacre Montgomery and Al Pacino, which premiered at Venice and TIFF in 2025 and opened early this year. Kruithoff and Nobel also served as executive producers on the Netflix documentary “Secret Mall Apartment,” which premiered at SXSW in 2024 to critical acclaim, and later attracted a large streaming audience.
