The Super Bowl will be telecast across two different Spanish-language outlets, adding more dinero to Disney‘s coffers as it seeks to monetize its rights to the 2027 game.
Disney’s ESPN will broadcast Super Bowl LXI on its own ESPN Deportes, but also sublicense a telecast for TelevisaUnivision’s Univision in the U.S. Under terms of the agreement, ESPN Deportes and Univision will each produce and air separate Spanish-language presentations, including dedicated commentary teams for each broadcast. Disney has already unveiled plans to telecast the English-language version of the game across ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC.
“We’re pleased to collaborate with TelevisaUnivision to expand access to Super Bowl LXI for Spanish-speaking fans across the U.S.,” said Oscar Ramos, vice president of digital content and ESPN Deportes, in a statement. “ESPN Deportes has a long history of serving NFL fans in the Hispanic community, and presenting Super Bowl LXI through multiple Spanish-language telecasts builds on that commitment.”
Univision telecast a Spanish-language version of the Super Bowl in 2024, and sold inventory in the event separately from that year’s English-language rightsholder, CBS.
“Hispanic audiences bring an unmatched energy and passion to the sports they love, and their fandom for the NFL has grown significantly,” said Olek Loewenstein, president of sports at TelevisaUnivision, in a statement. “We’re excited to be teaming up with ESPN to deliver the Super Bowl to Hispanic America — elevating the viewing experience with coverage that connects, in-culture and in-language.”
Disney believes the agreement will expand Spanish-language access to Super Bowl LXI, making the game available to millions of Spanish-speaking fans across the U.S. through the combined reach of Univision’s broadcast network and its own cable outlet, ESPN Deportes and Univision and further adds to ESPN’s Year of the Super Bowl.
The 2027 Super Bowl telecast will be ESPN Deportes’ fourth. Meanwhile, TelevisaUnivision has rights to show NFL games in Mexico over broadcast TV.
