Vin Diesel will stand on the Cannes stage next week alongside the original cast of The Fast and the Furious. The 2001 film has been selected for the Cannes Classics section at the 2026 festival. The official Fast & Furious Instagram account announced that Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, and Meadow Walker will appear at the Grand Théâtre Lumière on May 13, along with producer Neal H. Moritz, to mark 25 years of the franchise.
The Cannes Classics section is reserved for films that have shaped cinema culture in lasting ways. It’s a meaningful acknowledgment – and a reminder that what director Rob Cohen made back in 2001 was more than a high-octane action movie. It was a template for how mainstream films could build around loyalty, family, and found community rather than solo heroics.
The premise was lean: an undercover cop named Brian O’Conner infiltrates a crew of street racers and finds himself torn between duty and the people he’s come to care about. What made it land wasn’t the action. It was the chemistry. Diesel and the late Paul Walker built a screen friendship that felt immediate and real – the kind audiences don’t analyze.
